Prescribing Culture

The Art Collection is committed to supporting our students and staff by providing a welcoming environment with opportunities to meet others and engage in activities to promote wellbeing.

Relax with Art

Relax with Art is the Art Collection’s social prescription programme for the 2025/26 academic year, dedicated to supporting students through arts practice. In partnership with Artlink Central, the Art Collection will run a programme of weekly arts workshops for students who are struggling with loneliness, isolation or mental health challenges.

Weekly workshops will run on Wednesday afternoons, between 1 October – 3 December 2025 and 21 January – 15 April.

Workshops will take place on campus, in the Art Bothy, located at the front of the Pathfoot Building and last for two hours. There will be a maximum on 12 students, and it is expected that students will be available for all or most of the sessions.

Workshops will be delivered by artist Jo Boyle and members of the University Art Collection team.

Why participate?

This programme will benefit students who would like a calm, regular and supportive space to explore their creativity and meet other students. Jo is an experienced artist who will support students to try new art techniques, inspired by the Art Collection exhibitions in the Pathfoot Building. Participating in these workshops will help students to take time out of their day to relax, meet like-minded people and strengthen mental health.
