Professor Emma McLeod

Emma is a professor of History, and Head of the Division of History, Heritage and Politics (2019–23, 2025–26). She was educated at the University of Edinburgh, and she has taught British political and gender history from the late seventeenth till the early twentieth centuries at the University of Stirling since 1996.
She has published widely on British attitudes to America and France during the Revolutionary period, and she is now working on a comparative study of the political trials in the 1790s in the Anglophone North Atlantic world alongside co-editing The Wodrow-Kenrick Correspondence, 1750–1810 with Martin Fitzpatrick (Aberystwyth) and Anthony Page (Tasmania) for Oxford University Press. She was co-editor of the Scottish Historical Review (2018–23), and president of the Eighteenth-Century Scottish Studies Society (2024–26).
