Course notice

This exciting new full-time course will be available in September 2026. Full information on the course will be published soon.

How can we understand the world today? In a future saturated with image, text and narrative - much of it machine-made - what knowledge and skills can we derive from the critical study and creative practice of imaginative writing?

Who has power and how are they held accountable? How does the past inform the present? How do literature and media shape political discourse and vice versa? What is evidence and how can we assess it? Why does identity matter? Is peace possible and what do history and politics teach us about the means to achieve it? What is security and how should we develop it in a globalised century?

The Liberal Arts programme at Stirling enables you to develop your skills in critical analysis and creative thinking, and to explore arts and humanities perspectives on past, present and future.

Choose from four concentration pathways (English Studies, Film and Media, History or Politics) and curate a selection of option modules alongside your compulsory module each semester. In your final semester, you’ll work with supervisors to develop an interdisciplinary research project.
