Come along to a guest lecture by Mateja Malnar Štembal, President of ONA VE, the leading Slovenian NGO advocating for gender equality, female expertise and greater participation of women in the media and public life.
Mateja started her public relations career at the Slovenian Government Communication Office, where she for 23 years led media relations, including on high profile projects, such as the Slovene Presidency of the EU, Slovenian and EU parliamentary election campaigns, OECD and NATO summits and Slovenia's integration into the Schengen area. She worked for the pharmaceutical company Roche as a public relations adviser for three years before she embarked on a freelancing career. She co-founded ONA VE in 2021 and took over as President in 2024.
During the lecture, you will hear about Mateja’s career and extensive work experience in the government, corporate and NGO sectors, successes and challenges she faced along the way as well as similarities and differences in communication work, particularly in strategic planning, working with the media and public engagement. The main emphasis will be on her current work with ONA VE, ranging from improving gender representations in the media, advocating for greater visibility of female experts, working on influencing gender equality policies, advocacy campaigns to mapping female statutes in Slovenia. She will also offer key career tips and advice for future communication and advocacy professionals.
