About me
I am a third-year student on the Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology, currently undertaking my placement with NHS Lothian’s Stop Smoking Service. In this role, I provide behavioural support to patients seeking to stop smoking within the acute setting. This involves conducting assessments using motivational interviewing and applying psychological models such as the Self-Regulation and Transtheoretical Models. I draw on a range of behaviour change techniques and psychological interventions to formulate tailored plans that support patients in becoming smoke-free, while equipping them with coping strategies to overcome barriers to change.
I have experience delivering teaching and training on health behaviour change and stress management to diverse audiences, including high school pupils, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and healthcare professionals.
Recently I completed a project with NHS Forth Valley’s Child Healthy Weight Programme, where I developed and piloted an evaluation tool informed by the COM-B model and the Theoretical Domains Framework. Following on from this I am planning a 1-2-1 intervention to support families in making positive changes at home thus increasing the impact of the programme.
Currently, I am working with colleagues in the Public Health department on a systematic review looking at engagement and action upon preconception health information with the findings informing a health needs assessment of the preconception population within NHS Lothian.
My research interests include weight management, physical activity to promote wellbeing, and supporting women during the perimenopausal and menopausal stages through evidence-based lifestyle interventions.
