Mr Gary Birnie

About me

I have over 15 years’ experience as a Lead UX Research and Design Consultant, working on behaviour change and digital health products including the Couch to 5k and Food Scanner apps for Public Health England, as well as LLM-based digital health assessment tools. This work led me to complete an MSc in Behavioural Science at the University of Stirling, where my research focused on physical activity engagement and motivation. My PhD builds on this professional and academic background and examines inequalities in green exercise engagement among underrepresented population groups in Scotland.

• Inequalities in green exercise participation • Motivational effects of goals on physical activity behaviour • Effects of green exercise on physical activity motivation among under-represented groups
