Joe Cowley currently directs and lectures on the BSc Sport,PE and Professional education degree programme at the University of Stirling. Having completed a Doctorate at the Institute for Coaching and Performance (ICaP), University of Central Lancashire. Joe has a diverse teaching background having taught across sectors in Scotland. Previous teaching roles include: lecturing in Sport and Exercise science/coaching at UWS, Reid Kerr College and South Lanarkshire college. Teaching PE /HWB in schools have also formed a large part of Joe's career having taught in both West Lothian and North Lanarkshire council. Joe's initial degree focused heavily on Sport and Exercise physiology and nutrition. Joe holds NGB' awards in a full range of sports. He is a level 4 Strength and Conditioning coach Level 3 personal trainer Leader in running fitness Leader in triathlon.
Joe's research interests take a biopsychosocial approach to Sports injuries and medicine, PE, physical activity, Sport Science and Secondary Education and Teacher Education. His most recent publication focusses on Contextual learning for Triathlon and endurance coaches.
Future projects in the pipeline will look at knee injury and prehabilitation with an emphasis on the 'knees over toes programme' and a qualitative analysis of semaglutide users.
