Abstract
First paragraph: This is an important year for the Scottish Educational Research Association (SERA) as we are celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2024, having made a remarkable journey of dedication and impact in the field of education. This is also the 30th anniversary of the Salamanca Statement which was a watershed moment for inclusive education. The Salamanca message that inclusive schools are ‘the most effective means of combating discriminatory attitudes, creating welcoming communities, building an inclusive society and achieving education for all’ (UNESCO, 1994, p. ix) has been reiterated through several UNESCO projects and reports, including Sustainable Development Goal 4, which emphasises that every learner matters and matters equally (UNESCO, 2017; Ainscow, 2024).
