For the academic year 2027-2028, the St Andrew's Society for the State of New York is offering two scholarships to Scottish students wishing to study for a postgraduate master's in the United States. Each studentship will have a maximum value of $45,000 USD. The scholarship is tenable from August 2027 to May 2028.

Things to know

  • The scholarship is tenable at a university in New York State, within 250 miles of its boundary, or in the Washington DC area. If there is no suitable course in that area, the Society may consider a university elsewhere in the United States.
  • It is important to apply early as application deadlines for some universities will be before the scholarship deadline. It is highly recommended that you read the advice on the Fulbright Commission website about timelines and other important information on applying for further study in the United States. You can find more useful information in our Learning pathway: applying for a masters available on Stirling Careers Hub.
  • The award is applied first to eligible education costs, including tuition, required books, supplies and equipment. If tuition is paid or waived by another source, the Society may allow some or all of the award to go towards housing, board or travel.
  • The award may not cover the full cost of study. You are responsible for researching tuition, travel and accommodation costs and arranging any required university deposit. The deposit may be due before the scholarship outcome is known.  Information on other sources of funding is available at the Institute of International Education.
  • Scholars are expected to send the Society at least two informal reports about their experience and stay in contact. They will also be invited to the Society’s annual Saint Andrew’s Day Banquet in New York.
