Student placements and projects
Our Masters Psychology of Sport students are looking for opportunities to deliver projects to athletes, coaches, and clubs. By welcoming a Stirling student into your organisation, you’ll be gaining a valuable asset to help you enhance your performance provisions, as well as building relationships with the next generation of sport practitioners.
What skills can our Psychology of Sport students offer your organisation?
Creating the correct mindset for performance has long been considered an important element of success in sport. Many elite athletes actively pursue ways in which they can develop their mental skills alongside their technical proficiency, physical condition, tactical awareness and other lifestyle habits.
Our students are able to provide sport psychology support to your sports team. The work tends to involve a period of observation and analysis, the formulation of a support strategy and a series of delivery activities (e.g., lectures, workshops, sessions) that aim to develop the mental skills your athletes or team. Most delivery work involves the integration of mental skills such as imagery, relaxation, concentration, routine and goal-setting into physical training sessions which are overseen by the coach.
Examples of previous projects
- Delivery of a series of introductory Sport Psychology workshops for athletes.
- Psychologically informed CPD for, coaches, parents, and other key stakeholders.
- Auditing and reporting on organisational structure, values, and practices from a psychological perspective.
- Creation of resources in line with identified needs.
When do students go on placement?
Students are expected to deliver a project, from start to finish, as part of their Masters degree. This can be delivered face-to-face, online, or adopting a blended approach, dependent on the host’s needs. Each placement is supervised by a member of Faculty staff with applied experience and credentials.
Placements on this module can commence any time from December. This gives students enough time to complete their placement prior to submitting their assignments for the module in April.
Project scopes should be in by mid-November at the latest.
