Mr Jose Ferreira-Cayuela

Jose Ferreira-Cayuela is Senior Lecturer in Spanish & Latin American Studies at the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at the University of Stirling. He is also currently External Examiner for the Spanish programme at the Open University. He graduated in Filología Inglesa at the University of Granada (Spain), where he also got his MA equivalent in Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching Methodology, and then specializing on Spanish as a Foreign Language Teaching Methodology at the International University of Andalucía-Seville. Jose is also Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. At the University of Stirling, Jose teaches Spanish Grammar/Language, Translation, writing seminars and conversation to all level of undergraduates. He has also coordinated modules for Spanish for business and Spanish/Teaching methods for future Secondary teachers. At postgraduate level, he has participated in the past in the teaching of the MRes in Translation Studies (Spanish) and has supervised dissertations for the MRes in Translation and the MRes Translation and TESOL. In addition to this, Jose also coordinates the Study/Work Abroad programmes for our students going to Spain or Latin America either as part of our own exchanges with partner universities or as English Language Assistants for the British Council, and has been a visiting lecturer in a number of Spanish Universities (Granada, Córdoba, Pablo Olavide-Seville, among others).
His research/scholarship interests are:

• motivation/amotivation in foreign language learning,
• the impact of technology in language learning (AI, Telecollaboration & virtual language practice) and e-assessment (on Canvas & Respondus),
• and how language learning can enhance health and well-being.

José has participated, and presented, in International Conferences like ASELE (International Association of Spanish as a foreign language), EUROCALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning Europe), and New Trends in Language Teaching. He has also represented the University of Stirling in the Scottish Academic Leadership Programme run by Advance HE.
